Spring National Hunter Show (Monroe, WA)~ April 7th-12th, 2009

Morgan took a small group of hunters up to the April Monroe show.  Everyone rode very well and came back with nice ribbons:

  • Uptown Girl continued her education in the Baby Green Hunters with Morgan and put together some consistent trips.  Grace Watkins took over the reins for the Short Stirrup Hunters and came home with some great experience and a 3rd place finish, out of a large group in the under saddle class.
  • Amazing Grace and Morgan Arndt moved into the Children’s Hunter Pony division and showed they were very ready for the move.  They came home with lots of top placings.
  • One Up rose to the occasion for his first time in the big indoor arena at Monroe.  With Morgan riding, he placed very well in Pre Green Division.  Lori Heist took over the reins for the Pre-Adult Division never finishing less than 3rd place!
Our Dear Chaps

Morgan and I were so lucky to have Chaps as our first “child”.  Morgan found him just days before I joined him at Rancho Corazon in New Mexico.  He was this darling little puppy that loved to steal my chair at breakfast time.  He learned about horse show rings in Texas, when he was chased out of the pony hunter ring after sneaking away from us for a restroom break.  He was our loyal companion and dear friend.  He accepted all of our life changes from moving from New Mexico to Austin, Texas and finally ending up here in Washington.  He learned to love Lizzie the Jack Russell as a true friend and when we brought Vivienne home, he  became her constant guardian.  We truly were blessed to have him in our lives for 11 wonderful years.  We will forever remember him as the Pebble Beach High Jump Champion, he also came home with the most obedient blue ribbon as well.  Rest in Peace Chappy Dog.  We will always love you.

2009 Spring Hunter/Jumper- Salem, OR (3/18-3/22)

We started our year off in Salem, OR.  We enjoy this show since the management is the best and the arenas are great for not only the experienced horse/rider teams but great for the greenies to get started.

  • Morgan rode Lori Heist’s new hunter One Up in the Pre Green Hunters.  Owen settled in fabulously and earned great prizes in the Large Working Hunters & Pre Greens.
  • Grace Watkins hunter Uptown Girl started her year off wonderfully in the Baby Green Hunters with Morgan.  Grace then took over the reins in the Short Stirrup Hunter Horse, where they worked on forming a great partnership and even brought home a blue in the under saddle.
  • Morgan Arndt started the year off with her new pony Amazing Grace in the Children’s Hunter Pony.  They put together some awesome trips and showed us what a great partnership these two are going to be.
  • Anne Ryan joined us with her cool mare Cafe Ole.  They had some quick and clean trips and ended up Champion in the 1.0m Jumpers.
  • Tia Carr rode her new mare Valentina in the 1.0m Low Adults and the 1.10m High Adults.  Val learned all about horse show life and ended up Reserve Champion in the 1.10m High Adults.
  • Michelle Hunt brought her fancy young hunter stallion Coastal Symphony to hang out and get ready to start in the Baby Green Hunters at the next show.

  • Brenda Biggerstaff was able to sneak away from college to ride her wonderful gelding Deuce Coupe in the 3′9′ and 4′ Jumpers, she was 2nd in both classes with two very impressive rounds.
Rob Gage Clinic

In early December, One Horse Productions LLC and Encanto Valley Farm brought Rob Gage to Donida Farm for a three day hunter/jumper clinic.  We had groups from 2′6″ & under to 4′ & above.  Rob set very technical exercises and courses that we all learned from.  Everyone had a great time and we are looking forward to having him back to clinic in 2009.

2008 EVF & Donida Farm Halloween Party

So, it is no secret that there is a long rivalry between the EVF hunter/jumpers and the Gwen Blake dressage group when it comes to Halloween games.  The most popular is normally the Pumpkin jump which normally results in a few dressage horses deciding that a small, round, orange item is the most frightening thing they have ever come across in their lives!  This year both teams did very well and no one fell off :-)  Morgan ended up winning it on Brenda Biggerstaff’s Deuce Coupe.

For the past couple of years we have included the Toilet Paper High Jump as one of our games.  For some reason, this flimsy piece of TP causes the most laid back equine to jump out of their skin.  In 2008, we saw all the previous records fall.  Morgan and Cooper (Deuce Coupe) won this one as well…..clearing 5′!  Molly and Tilly (Wavelength) came in a very close second, attempting the height but having 4 faults.

This was definitely a party for the record books.  See below for some fun pictures.
